Meet Tori Mercer of Window Seat Designs. She is our designer.
I thought you might like to get to know her. She’s a wonderful part of the Smolen Homes team.
Tori tell us about Window Seat Designs
Window Seat Designs was established in July 2004. With a background in business and interior design I decided to pursue my passion and start my own design business. Initially specializing in the design and fabrication of custom window treatments, I was able to build a steady client base. About 5 years ago I began offering interior decorating services as these clients were seeking help with other projects and finishing out the overall design on their spaces with more than just window coverings. I now consider Window Seat Designs to be a one stop source for all window covering and interior decorating needs. From finish selections, space planning, decorating and window treatments. I am able to walk my clients through their projects from start to finish.
How did you and John Smolen partner up?
I met John 2 years ago while he was planning for the 2013 Parade of Homes in Jamesville Grove. He contacted Sarah Morobito of Sarah Harris Designs to help with the design work on the house. Sarah asked me to partner with her on that project as we have worked together in the past and have similar design backgrounds. We tackled the first Smolen Homes Parade house together and had an amazing experience.
What do you like about working with John?
Since connecting up with John in 2013, he has started offering his clients some initial design consultation time with me to help with the exciting process of building a home. Some of his clients simply utilize the time he offers and then tackle the rest on their own while others have hired me independently to assist with the complete process. It’s great working with John as he is very flexible and creative. And you can really see that he loves what he does and takes pride in his work and in his team.
Where do you get your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from the space I’m working in and the clients I’m working with. I don’t have a set “design style”. I prefer to get a feel for my client’s style and then pull things together that bring out the best of that style. I want to create an amazing space that suits the personality and needs of my client’s and that they feel comfortable living in.
